As scenes from ‘Grease’ and ‘Happy Days’ were replicated on the big stage, the value that underpins the annual All Stars Week shone through.
A packed crowd converged on the school hall for the finale concert which was a culmination of all the fun and learning the clients of integratedliving’s Overton Services had experienced with St Joseph’s students throughout last week.
This year was the ninth annual All Stars Week where the clients join with students to explore the creative arts with activities in singing, dancing, art, acting and performance.
This year, 42 clients took part in the week led by integratedliving Overton Services team leader Chic Taylor, St Joseph’s Aberdeen principal John Tobin and 140 student leaders.
With the added bonus of cooling off in the school pool and afternoon tea each day in the specially designed ‘Happy Days’ 1950s style diner, the clients enjoyed a fantastic week.
The students equally gain a lot from the week, with the All Stars Week co-chairperson and 2015 school vice-captain Nikki Hollingsworth saying it was a great week, although challenging.
This year was the fourth year Nikki has volunteered to take part, as she said she personally has gained a lot from the experience.
“As students, we make friends for life, we all message each other on Facebook and they are such awesome people to share the experience with,” she said.
With co-chairperson and 2015 school captain Mitchell Blaney, Nikki was responsible for the organisation of the whole event and the student group of those from year 7 to 12.
Nikki said she hopes the clients learnt new skills and enjoyed meeting new people, but the main thing is that they had lots of fun.
Chic said the concert was fantastic with an abundance of smiles all-round the record ever crowd that overflowed the hall.
“I’d like to extend a huge thank you to everyone for supporting us and to our sponsors.
“The hard work, dedication and friendships put in by everyone during the week was just fantastic to see,” Chic said.
“I’m honoured to be part of an incredible team of students and to be working with integratedliving and having the opportunity to be able to run this program and see the difference it has made to so many lives.
“All the guys have had an absolute blast and to end showcasing their abilities topped off a perfect week, I’m very, very proud of everyone’s achievements.
“To all the staff and volunteers you make a difference every day and your commitment to the All Stars program was outstanding as always.”
Look out for next year, as there will be something spectacular to celebrate the All Stars Week 10th Anniversary.
