The Scone Pistol Club Inc has been established for about 50 years and provides a very skilful and precise sport to its members.
With about 30 current members, the club offers various shoots and matches, and can also provide the foundations for shooters to go on and represent the area at matches.
Members need to be a minimum age of 12-years-old as there are two types of licences – a minor’s permit (12 to 18-years-old) and an adult licence.
Members meet once a fortnight at the range about 10 kilometres out of Scone on the Bunnan Road, with the addition of regular matches and a yearly competition with the Ellerston club.
A number of different matches, or events, are practiced including ISSF Olympic shooting, standard, sports and centre fire shooting, as well as metallic silhouette, service match and International Practical Shooting Conference.
Scone Pistol Club Inc secretary Daniel Hickson said the club welcomes all new members and is open to providing any matches.
“Basically, the different events offered are based on the calibre of pistol that the shooters use, and if members shoot air pistols then we do that,” he said.
Hickson said that although some of the matches are defined by the type of pistol used, most use a 22 calibre semi-automatic pistol, or a centre fire semi-automatic pistol or revolver.
“We aim to increase our inter-club competitions and provide the foundation for shooters to go on and represent at outer area events,” he said.
“There is a real misconception about firearms in the community, but pistol shooting is a very safe sport and it is very well regulated.
“All licencing requirements are managed through the NSW Firearms Registry and the club is affiliated with the NSW Amateur Pistol Association.”
