About 60 people gathered at the Scone Rugby Club for the season launch and thank you to sponsors.
Among the crowd was special guest Phil Waugh – who shared his insights into captaining the Wallabies and Waratahs throughout his illustrious career.
Waugh entertained the club members with stories about the characters he played with and emphasised the importance of culture and building relationships.
Scone Rugby Union Club representative Julie Smart said the club was extremely thankful to Phil for coming up to Scone for the event.
“He was an excellent speaker, highlighting the need for development of respect between players and coaches for the clubs at all levels, the good position of Australian rugby leading into the World Cup and the opportunities available to players to travel the world playing rugby.
“He honestly answered many challenging questions from the crowd,” Smart said.
The Scone Rugby Union senior season will kick off this Saturday with a Twilight 7’s Competition against Singleton at Brumby Park at 5pm.
Registration for new players will take place at the club on Friday, March 6 at 5pm.
There will also be Smart Rugby Training on Monday, February 23 at 5pm.
All representative players are welcome to take part in the Central North trials for 12 to 17 years in Gunnedah this Sunday at 9.30am.
