During the school trip as part of the 100th anniversary of World War I, James McCaffrey will and his peers will visit the graves of Anzac soldiers who lost their lives and are buried in Villers-Bretonneux.
The Hunter Valley Grammar School year 11 student will read a eulogy for a soldier and lay a cross on his grave, and this particular soldier is Eric Harold Carter from Stewarts Brook.
James has put the call out to any relatives or descendants of Eric as he wishes to let them know he is going and see whether they would like him to say some words or take anything for them?
Eric joined the Australian Military Forces 21/18th battalion on August 20, 1917 when he was only 19, and he is the son of Henry Richard Carter, also from Stewarts Brook.
Two years ago James also visited the village Villers-Bretonneux when he attended the dawn service.
With a strong passion in war history, the 15-year-old found a job to earn money to take his family back for the 100 year anniversary this April.
James’ mother, Amanda, said they would dearly love to hear from anyone who knows any information about Eric or any relatives or descendants.
Any family members or descendants can email Amanda at amanda@tbmg.com.au or contact 0458 313 333.
