The athletes represented St Joseph’s High School Aberdeen at the event in Penrith, which was the largest annual school sporting event held in NSW with close to 3000 students attending the two day event.
On Thursday, in the individual junior championships Chloe Hollingsworth won gold in the Combined Catholic Colleges Championships and picked up bronze in the NSW All Schools Championships, which also gained her selection into the NSW state team to represent NSW at the Australian All Schools Championships to be held at the end of April.
On Friday, Hollingsworth was joined by two fellow St Joseph’s students Caitlyn Whitehead and Hannah Gleeson to compete in the junior girls team relay.
The relay involved Whitehead completing a 400 metre swim tagging off to Hollingsworth who completed a 10 kilometre ride and tagging off to Gleeson to complete a three kilometre run.
The team relays attract thousands of athletes to contest the championships with the bragging rights of being the best school in NSW.
In the junior girls race there were 176 teams entered and the St Joseph’s team had a remarkable result in their first attempt by winning gold in the Combined Catholic Colleges Championship and bronze in the NSW All Schools Championship.
All girls should be congratulated on their efforts and know that they have represented their school and towns with distinction.
