Both coming from previous coaching backgrounds, the players not only bring experience, but a huge amount of enthusiasm and dedication to their new roles at Scone Rugby Union Club.
Kent, who originates from the UK, arrived to Scone Brumbies with a bang last year after scoring a try on the very first ball he caught in Australia.
Since then he become an integral member of the club, playing in the front row throughout the 2014 season.
A larger than life character, Kent has earned a great deal of respect from his fellow players with his attitude and knowledge of the game and will this year take on the duty of player/coach for the first grade side.
Whilst producing a competitive side on the field is Kent’s main aim for the season, he said he would also like to improve on last year’s tier two success and try to topple some of the bigger sides to make the cut for the tier one competition this season.
Second grade coach, Nicholson has been involved on and off the field with the Scone Brumbies for the past five years and is also taking on a player/coach position.
He brings a good moral to the club and has been a popular bloke amongst players since the beginning of his involvement with the Brumbies.
He said that whilst second grade is usually more known for its social aspect, he is keen to try to increase player numbers and to a produce a more consistent team on a week to week basis in the upcoming competition.
Along with Kent and Nicholson, longstanding club player Mike Ruthven will also be assisting with coaching the back line and stepping in when needed throughout the season.
Ruthven, who has played for the Brumbies for the past three years, has a plethora of experience on and off the field and will play a vital role to the club’s success this year.
Previous coaches Ben McRae, Duncan Pinfold and John Maxwell are delighted with the new coaching panel and continue to offer their support in many aspects to the club.
“It is fantastic to see some of the younger blokes stepping up and taking the reins,” McRae said.
“We wish them all the very best for the upcoming season.”
Scone play Singleton at home in a trial match at Brumby Park next Saturday, March 21 at 6pm and welcome all supporters down for a terrific evening of rugby.
