Jaime Petersen boasts all of these wonderful attributes and more, which is why the 16-year-old Scone girl has won a Youth Ambassador Scholarship through the Global Volunteer Network.
The Scone High School year 11 student is well-known by some sectors of the community as she is often seen volunteering her skills of face painting at public events, or at children’s parties.
It’s Jaime’s passion for volunteering and helping others that saw her enter the scholarship program, and obviously played a large role in her success.
Throughout the next two years Jaime will be busy raising $3500 to enable her to visit a third world country such as Vietnam, Uganda or Africa, for two weeks to work on a humanitarian project.
Jaime said the opportunity arose through a family member who knew of the program and notified her, as they knew of her volunteering and humanitarian aspirations.
“I’ve done a fair bit of volunteer work in the community and at school, and I really enjoy helping others so I thought I would give it a go,” Jaime said.
“I currently sponsor a child in Tanzania and I really value the difference we can make for kids through education.
“I really want to be able to help these children more when I get over there,” she said.
To date, the youngster has raised more than $1000 and she is planning to hold a car wash with the help of her friends in the near future.
The program also provides the opportunity for Jaime to complete leadership training in Sydney in July.
