The team of about 25 members has welcomed the Upper Hunter Shire Council sports participation officer and accredited gymnastics instructor to the team to assist with the gymnastics component of the sport of equestrian vaulting.
A strong equine based club in the Upper Hunter, the sport has been operating for five years under the expert guidance of professional instructor Robyn Boyle.
It currently has a variety of male and female members ranging in age from five-years-old through to 15-years-old, who are spread across the seven different grades of expertise.
Boyle said last year the club had a very successful year at the local, state and national level, which was recognised recently at the Equestrian NSW Awards for Excellence night.
At this prestigious event, the Scone Equestrian Vaulting Team were recognised in the categories of senior male athlete of the year which was won by Jarrod Boyle, junior male athlete of the year won by Justin Boyle and horse of the year won by ‘Hunterview Sinatra’, a horse bred locally at Hunterview Stud.
Boyle said now that the team is an incorporated club affiliated with Equestrian NSW they are welcoming sponsors on board to assist with both the local competition, to be run on May 9 and 10 as part of the Scone and Upper Hunter Horse Festival, as well as assisting the team members to compete at the six annual competitions across the country.
“We would also like to get more accredited coaches to allow the club to grow, we’ve got two of the best horses in Australia at the moment,” Boyle said.
“Any new members are welcome and the beauty of the sport, is that you don’t have to own a horse to be involved as 80 per cent of the training is done off the horse,” she said.
Equestrian vaulters can compete across seven different grades in the formats of individual, pairs or squads of six vaulters.
The group of athletes train each Wednesday at ‘Dunsinane’, Turanville Road from 4pm to 6pm.
