Recently graduated Scone High School students Ainsleigh Crisp and Sharon Atkinson were nominated by their year adviser and   principal for a Hunter River Group Educational Grant late last year. 

Scone and District CWA president Anne McPhee said she was absolutely thrilled that the two Scone girls had won a $500 grant each to assist with their tertiary studies. 

“Several students from the district have been nominated but this is the first time in five or six years that we have had students from our district selected as grant recipients. 

“The CWA go around to all the high schools each year to promote the grants, with two available each year for year 11 students entering year 12, as well as a grant for students entering university.

“The next funding round will open at the end of this year and it would be wonderful to see more local students apply,” she said. 

Ainsleigh Crisp who is currently completing a communications degree at Charles Sturt University in Bathurst, said she was extremely grateful for the funding. 

“I will be putting the funds to good use to help with living expenses.

“I would like to sincerely thank my (Scone High School) teachers Mrs Hamilton and Mrs Smith for nominating me, it is very much appreciated,” she said. 

Sharon Atkinson who is currently studying at the University of Canberra will also receive a cheque to go towards her degree majoring in diet and exercise.
