Six local archers gained a taste of southern shooting recently when they competed in the Australian Bowhunters Association (ABA) National Safari at Wagga Wagga.

The four day event took place on the Easter long weekend and was a great opportunity for the archers to try out the location, which will be the venue for the next world championships.
The Lake Glenbawn Field Archery members made their presence known taking out numerous first placings and national champion accolades from the 500 shooters from across Australia.
The archers included Jock and Fenny Thompson; John, Vicki and Alyssa Mollema, and Jo Bogie.
The first two days of shooting were for the ABA National rounds.
Fenny had a great round to win the veteran’s female sighted division, with Alyssa winning the cub female freestyle and Jo winning the female bowhunter limited category.
Jock placed third in the freestyle unlimited and Vicki placed second in the female freestyle unlimited division.
Sunday and Monday sawing the staging of the 3D National Championships where the locals won several divisions.
In the championships, Fenny won the veteran’s female sighted division, Alyssa won the cub female freestyle, Jo won the female bowhunter limited, Jock won the freestyle unlimited, Vicki won the female freestyle unlimited and John placed sixth in the freestyle unlimited.
Following the Wagga tournament, Alyssa went on to shoot in the FITA Youth Nationals at Penrith from Tuesday, April 7 to Saturday, April 11.
In her first time in a FITA tournament, Alyssa placed third in the cubs target division, second in the cubs field division and second in the cubs clout division.
The next shoot for the Lake Glenbawn Field Archery Club is this weekend at the Murrurundi Golf Course.
