The Scone Neighbourhood Centre staff and manager Lee Watts were out and about offering a free sausage sizzle and information to residents in front of the centre in Liverpool Street.
The event marked Neighbourhood Centre Week and was also a chance to recognise the decades of history of the centre providing complimentary services to people of the Upper Hunter.
Amongst the information on hand was newspaper clippings from The Scone Advocate dating back to 1988 featuring the involvement of the centre in the community.
Mrs Watts said the aim of the day was to let people know about all the different services that are available through the centre.
“While also celebrating Neighbourhood Centre Week, it is a good opportunity to educate people on what the centre does,” she said.
“It’s a chance for people to find out what we do and how we can help them.
“We also welcome all new ideas that people have of what they want from the centre.”
The centre offers internet and computer access and training, a full suite of business and secretarial services from typing and help with resumes and job applications to photocopying, laminating, binding, scanning and faxing.
It also boasts a training room, two meeting rooms and an exhibition room with access to training equipment, networked computers, data projectors and screen and kitchen facilities, as well as equipment hire of items such as data projectors, laptops, portable whiteboards and video cameras.
Some of the centre’s upcoming programs include a Scooter Maintenance Day on Tuesday (May 26) with appointment bookings currently being taken.
Mrs Watts said the computer classes had also resumed with training in excel, word and all other aspects, and monthly movies will start up again once the weather warms up.
She was also excited to mention they have already started planning the massive Christmas extravaganza.
