The Scone Grammar School Primary Rugby 7s team made a trip to Sydney in recent weeks to contest the State Finals.
The team of boys aged Under 13 qualified by winning the zone and regional carnivals earlier this term.
Their first games were played at the Sydney Academy of Sport at Narrabeen, where they contested pool matches and the first final.
In three great displays of talented rugby, the boys put three wins on the board in the pool matches against Christ the King (30 to 5), Knox Grammar School (20 to 15) and St Joseph’s Taree (15 to 10).
This wonderful achievement meant they qualified for a semi final against Trinity College, with the victor to play in the grand final.
Unfortunately the Scone lads couldn’t match Trinity’s pace and aggression and went down 25 to 10. This result meant they played in the play-off for third or fourth position against St Aloysius at Allianz Stadium in a curtain raiser to the Waratahs and Reds match.
Playing under lights, and seeing footage of their match on the big screen was an experience that all of the boys will remember and cherish for a long time.
In what an extremely close and tough match, the boys came from 15 to 5 down to win the match 20 to 15, placing them third in the state.
The boys are to be commended not just for this wonderful achievement but for the overall way they conducted themselves and represented their school.
They can be extremely proud.
A special thank you to the parents that have provided so much support and to the coaches, James Arnott and Alex Warner, as the boys appreciate the time and dedication you have provided.
The team included Will Warner, Fletcher Shearman, Lachlan Park, Charlie Brooks, Sam Mount, Hamish Watts, Lochlan McClean, Edward Arnott, Banjo Cole and Hayden Bull.
