So far the 95th year is shaping up to be a brilliant year as the Tigers are currently sitting at third spot on the Hunter Valley Group 21 Rugby League Competition ladder.
This year is also 30 years since the 1985 First Grade team won the grand final against the Muswellbrook Rams at their home ground at McKinnon Field.
At the time the premiership win broke a 36 year drought of wins for the club.
A reunion is being planned by the Aberdeen Old Boys Club and the Aberdeen Rugby League Football Club for the last weekend of this month when there will be a weekend of celebrations.
The festivities will kick off on Friday, July 31 with the First Grade clash between the Tigers and Muswellbrook Rams at McKinnon Field at 7pm followed by after game celebrations at the Aberdeen Sports and Recreation Club.
Saturday, August 1 will be a day of celebrations starting with a punt and beer at the Commercial Hotel from 1pm.
The 95 year Club Celebration Dinner and Auction will be held at the Aberdeen Sports and Recreation Club from 6pm with a Chinese smorgasbord and entertainment by ‘The Damage Brothers’ from Muswellbrook.
Aberdeen Old Boys member and club publicity officer Shane Lloyd said the 1985 team will be a major focus of the celebration with many of the players coming back to Aberdeen for the weekend to celebrate.
“We are having special 1985 team memorabilia jumpers similar to the originals made for the First Grade boys to play in when they also play Muswellbrook on the Friday night.
“These team jumpers will then be auctioned at the celebration dinner on the Saturday,” Lloyd said.
“We are looking forward to a good weekend.
“All current and former players, officials and supporters are invited to join in the celebrations.”
Tickets are on sale for $30 each at the Aberdeen Sports and Recreation Club, or from Shane Lloyd, Darren Mavin, Rod Partridge or Brad Milton.
