A little bit of moody mist didn’t deter 350 riders that came from all over NSW to compete in one of NSW’s most hotly contested junior campdrafts.
In the arena first up were the 17 to 21 years drafters with April Langridge taking the blue sash on Silver followed by Rebecca Palmer on Bardot, Tom Duggan on Pistol, Jobeth Taylor on Pistol and Rowena Dillon on Dexter.
The 8 and Under 11 campdraft saw Seanne Crawley take out first place on Irish and equal second on Connie together with Eddie Maxwell on Spookinator, Travis Samson on Dusty and Shine, Rourke Sharpe on Kings Candyman and Grace Lawrence on DV8.
The 11 and Under 13 winner this year was local rider Sarah Nairne from Cassilis on Blackjack on 85 followed by Lane Clarke on Trademark, Claudia Atfield on Mahogany, Macey Clarke on Ivory Lass and Nicole Martin on Charm.
The 13 and Under 15 winner and second place getter was Jorjia Edwards on Acres Liberty Beau and Liberty Silver Rain followed by equal third riders Thomas Nairne and Clancy Martin with April Lawler fifth.
The 15 and Under 17 winners were Merriwa riders all the way with Matthew Porter on Drovers Run first, Hamish Cameron on Jaylo second, Zeb Pearce on One More Style third, Matthew Porter on Glimmer fourth and Anastasia Martin on Carina fifth.
With 70 riders in the cut out this year, competition was fierce but won eventually by Tamika Edwards from Aberdeen on Acres Liberty Beau, and equal second went to Jock Grady, Josie Porter and Jack Mobberley, all of Merriwa.
The family cut out really sorted out the ‘wheat from the chaff’ with most children out scoring their parents in the combined score event.
Rourke and Jeremy Sharpe from Blandford were victorious followed closely by Josie and Kelly Porter of Merriwa, Jaiden and Justin Atfield of Scone, Jack and Kane Mobberley of Merriwa and Tamika Edwards and Alan Young of Aberdeen.
In the Juvenile Family Campdraft Alan Young and Jorjia Edwards took out top honours followed by Luke and Cody Clarke of Niangah, Chloe and Justin Atfield for Scone, Wayne and Brendon Horadern of Murrurundi and Brett and Kate Schiffmann of Ellerston.
Sarah Nairne of Cassilis was the high point local rider on Blackjack while Jorjia Edwards of Aberdeen was the highest scoring Quarter Horse and Stock Horse riding dual registered Acres Liberty Beau.
St Joseph’s Primary Merriwa principal Helen Whale said she was delighted with the event.
“We’ve achieved what we wanted to achieve, to make this a first class junior campdraft with an emphasis on family fun and participation.”
No doubt, riders will be coming back for more campdraft action and family fun next year.
