The committee donated $1000 to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service Scone Support Group this week in order to help keep the vital free helicopter service in operation.
The Highland Games committee donates to various community organisations each year, however this year decided the helicopter service was a great option.
Aberdeen Highland Games outgoing president Barrie Lawn said the local Westpac group hold a stall at the games each year and they felt it was time to donate back to them as the Upper Hunter is one place that really needs the helicopter.
“There will be other donations made in the community, however the Westpac chopper is something the whole community needs,” he said.
Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service Scone Support Group chairperson Errol Bates said he was very pleased to accept the donation on behalf of the group.
“Our group has been present at the games for a number of years and we take great pleasure in being there to publicise the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.
“It’s amazing the number of questions we get asked on the day, it’s a great way to disperse information about the service,” he said.
“We also hear a lot of stories about the chopper and it’s amazing to know how many people it has touched.”
Mr Bates said the donation will go towards keeping the free service in the air into the future.
“The Highland Games is a great organisation that brings a wide range of people to the area, and I congratulate the committee on such a great event as I believe this year’s games were the biggest yet.”
