The Scone Grammar School student and his striking grey pony travelled to the Sydney International Equestrian Centre at the end of last term to represent his school in what proved to be challenging, muddy and cold conditions.
Despite the weather, Kelly saddled up and competed in the show hunter class for primary age students.
On board his mount ‘Tenayen Rising Star’, Kelly managed to gain top places across all three phases of the class.
In the ridden phase Kelly was the winner, followed by another first in the led phase and a close second in the rider phase, by just one point.
These performances saw Kelly sashed the overall champion of the class at the end of the day, making him the overall State Champion in the primary show hunter division.
This qualified him to represent NSW at the National Interschool Championships, which will be held in Sydney in November.
