But now these services could “bet at the mercy” of short term leases.
Hopefully our wonderful centrally located library and SNRC will not be ultimately shut down or suffer “death by a thousand cuts” for the sake of an accounting “operating performance ratio”.
According to Upper Hunter Shire Council, the five Upper Hunter libraries had over 60,000 visits and loaned over 45,000 books, DVDs, CDs and other resources last year (The Scone Advocate, July 30, 2015, page 9).
Libraries are a key and essential means of communicating to new generations the facts, figures and stories of our ongoing history – i.e. they are a key part of the transmission of culture throughout history.
Let us cherish our Scone Library and support it.
