A cold morning and an early kick off soon found the Brumbies behind the eight ball and Scone found themselves trailing in the early stages of the first half.
Some quick play off the rucks and improvement in the forward pack soon got Scone on the score board with Jake Davidson finding space on the right wing and diving over the line to leave the Brumbies within two points of the game.
Although Scone continued to allow pressure from the Magpies through unforced errors, they were able to secure more points before half time with James Capstick crashing over the line taking the score to 12 to 7.
Some wise words from captain Bobby Davidson at half time must have kicked Scone into shape as they came out firing into a make or break second half.
After conceding a soft try in the opening play from an unforced error, Scone then took control of the game with a swag of tries to fullback Travis Bateman, a second try to Jake Davidson and one to Daniel Burt to make a final score of 41 to 19 in what was a runaway match against a tiring Magpies team.
Although it was a convincing win on the scoreboard, Scone coaches Ben Nicholson and Gavin Owens would like to see improvement leading into the final against Barraba this weekend.
Nonetheless they are one step closer to re-claiming their 2014 premiership and another strong performance in Gunnedah on Sunday could see them once again the dark horse leading into another possible grand final.
