The Scott Memorial Hospital in Scone has recently undergone various upgrades to modernise the building and ensure it is keeping up with the health, safety and medical technological advances of society.
In the past financial year Hunter New England Health has invested more than $750,000 in the building to ensure its functionality and efficient operation into the future.
One of the major focuses of the upgrades is the completely modernised operating theatre.
Scott Memorial Hospital operating theatre nurse unit manager Nicole Briggenshaw said the operating suite is now more modern and spacious to work in.
“We now have much more space in the sterile stock room which is important and the upgrade allows for improved patient flow and productivity,” she said.
“All patients so far have been very pleased with the new look suite.”
Another vital upgrade is the new all access ramp and entry point to the hospital’s maternity unit.
Scott Memorial Hospital health services manager Judy Bernasconi said the new ramp will allow mothers with prams to enter the hospital easier and it will be much safer.
Other upgrades include new roofing, painting and new automatic access doors for the ambulance entry point and community health.
Ms Bernasconi said the 102-year-old building naturally requires maintenance, but to also be able to extend additional upgrades is brilliant.
“The upgrades will make life much easier for a lot of people from patients, to staff and visitors,” she said.
“And there is still lots more happening, so it’s very exciting.
“It’s all about improving the facility for the community, so it’s good for people to know that money is being spent on their local hospital to maintain the services available to them.”
