The cars are out and being shined up for the seventh annual Big Boys Toys and Family Day in Aberdeen.
Vintage cars and motorcycles, tractors, aeroplanes and any other toys are welcome to showcase on Saturday at Jefferson Park.
After the shutdown of the Aberdeen Neighbourhood Centre, the event has new organisers this year.
The Aberdeen Men’s Shed and Aberdeen Lions Club have teamed up with Colin McLean and Wayne Murphy, who are keen car enthusiasts and members of the Hunter Valley GT Club and the Upper Hunter Motoring Association, to organise the day.
Mr McLean said they didn’t want to see the event fold as it is good for the community, and as it is a benefit for the town, it is a great project for the men’s shed and lions club.
Being the regional development officer for Shannons Insurance, Mr McLean said he likes to support organisations and car clubs to run these sort of events.
“A number of local motor mechanics and businesses are supporting the event, which makes it possible,” he said.
There will be lots to see and do with classic car and bike displays, helicopter rides, stalls and a monster raffle, as well as a jumping castle and giant slide for the children.
People can enjoy a helicopter ride over Aberdeen with Hunter Valley Helicopters, and there will also be a vintage helicopter on display.
The best toys on the day will be awarded with prizes for the show and shine and other competitions.
Mr McLean said he encourages everyone to come along and enjoy the great family day with lots of food and refreshments, all provided by local groups.
“It’s a great day for all the local charities and sporting groups to work together and hopefully raise some funds.
“Hopefully we have good weather and lots of people come along to check out the cars,” he said.
The Big Boys Toys will be held this Saturday from 9.30am to 2.30pm.
Entry cost is $2 for adults, $1 for children (children under 7 are free), and $5 for a family.
