Community giving was at its best in Scone last week when more than $18,800 was distributed to local not for profit organisations.

A total of 14 community groups that operate in Scone and Murrurundi received funding at the Hunter Mutual Community Giving event at the Scone RSL Club.
The annual initiative provides bonus funds to local groups, as nominated by clients of the bank and has given thousands of dollars throughout the past years.
This year $18,844.06 was distributed at the gift fiving event, which was the largest amount to date.
Hunter Mutual Scone branch manager Catherine Taylor said basically, the initiative sees a community group open a Community Partnership Account at the bank and other members who have an account can choose to support the group through their own account.
“One per cent of the customer’s annual balance is donated to the organisation,” she said.
“It allows people to give funds to their favourite local community group without it costing them a cent.
“It was pleasing to see we had a few new community groups supported this year.”
One of the big winners again this year was the Scone and District Cancer Support Group who received $7055, the largest amount granted in Scone.
Ms Taylor said she was pleased to see the group supported well again, as everyone is touched by cancer at some stage.
She said it was quite fitting that one of the biggest recipients in Muswellbrook was the Wig Library, which is part on the oncology unit at the Muswellbrook District Health Service.
The Scone group plan to use the funds to complete the refurbishment of the verandah they have been working on at Scott Memorial Hospital in Scone.
Scone and District Cancer Support Group president June Day said they will now be able to purchase the chairs and furniture to finish off the project.
“We are really happy to receive the funds.
“This is the third year we have received a grant and the amount has grown gradually each year.”
Ms Taylor said overall the night went very well and everyone was happy with the amounts they received.
