The 2015 Twin Peaks Challenge VI is being held at Lake Glenbawn State Park later this month to raise funds for the Ronald McDonald House.
The multi-sport event involves running, cycling and kayaking, and there is a section for adults and children to take part.
The Centaur Outdoor Events initiative will be held on Saturday, September 26.
The event is designed as a fitness challenge and can be tackled individually or in a team of two.
The adults challenge is in five stages including a four kilometre run along the Main Dam Wall, a 15 kilometre cycle to Appletree Cove, a five kilometre kayak, a 14 kilometre cycle to Cemetery Point and back, finishing with a six kilometre lookout run.
The Mini Twinnies kids only event involves a 12 kilometre cycle to Look Out, followed by a four kilometre dam wall run and concluding with a 15 kilometre cycle to Appletree Cove.
Organiser Peter Manning said he is excited in the lead up to the sixth annual challenge.
Manning and some friends started the concept off in Tamworth with just 11 participants and the event has since grown to have 66 entrants last year.
The challenge has raised more than $160,000 for the Ronald McDonald House since its inception, which is a great effort for the 100 per cent community funded event.
Manning said it is the biggest single fundraising event for the Ronald McDonald House in the New England and Hunter regions.
“We always wanted to do a fundraising fitness challenge in Tamworth and we thought the Ronald McDonald House was a good service to support,” he said.
Funds raised so far have been used to add another bedroom to the family accommodation area of the Tamworth house.
Manning said this is the first time they have held the challenge at Lake Glenbawn and they were excited to host it in such a great spot and to have special permission to run across the dam wall.
“We plan to hold it in the Upper Hunter again in coming years,” he said.
“We have about 50 entrants so far from Manly, Dee Why, Coogee, Armidale, Tamworth and locals, but there is still time to register and get on board.
“It’s a great family day out and is a good event for people who have never done multi-sports challenges to have a go.”
