This is the message of a group of proactive people raising awareness of Mental Health in the Workplace this month.
The group includes local students who are part of the Upper Hunter Shire Youth Council and members of the Rotary Club of Scone.
All locals are encouraged to wear a hat to work next Friday, October 9 to mark Hat Day for mental health research.
This is not the first Hat Day in Scone, but this year there is also another special event to mark the day, a trivia night.
The Hat Day Trivia Night is being hosted by the Rotary Club with all proceeds going to Australian Rotary Health to fund research and initiatives into mental health.
All are welcome to take part in the trivia night, which will be held at the Scone Bowling Club next Friday night from 6.30pm for a 7pm start.
The cost is $10 each (pay at the door) and there will be tables of eight to 10 people.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own snacks and nibbles, and there will be raffles and prizes throughout the evening.
Scone High School principal and Scone Rotarian Lindy Hunt said being part of an Australia wide program by Rotary, this day encourages all people to be aware of those around them and to be aware of their own mental health, because it can impact significantly on your life both at work and at home.
“Representatives from the Youth Council will be out and about in Scone, wearing their hats, on Friday and they are encouraging all businesses and organisations to encourage their employees to wear a hat to work that day and make a donation to mental health research through the Rotary Club of Scone,” Ms Hunt said.
“Or you can get a group of friends together and come along to support a great cause at the trivia night, don’t forget your hat,” she said.
Alternatively, you can send a cheque to the Rotary Club of Scone, PO Box 70, Scone 2337.
