The 15-year-old Bunnan Polocrosse Club representative recently played in an Australian team at the Australian Junior Polocrosse Challenge at Warwick.
The St Joseph’s High School Aberdeen student was selected as a player in one of the two Australian Mixed Junior teams selected by the Polocrosse Association of Australia (PAA) to play in the carnival in August against a NSW and a Queensland team.
Wamsley was a member of the Green team, which was also made up of Clancy Knight, Hugh Anderson, Ruby McNiven and Breeanna Trembath from NSW, Queensland players Laura Hafey and Emily Watts, and Jacob Wilding from Western Australia.
They were coached by Alison Mathie and managed by Adam Dickson, who are both from NSW.
Throughout the weekend all the teams received coaching and attended an official dinner organised by Polocrosse Australia.
Both PAA teams Green and Gold won three out of their four games, playing each other twice over the weekend with both teams having won a game each and only two goals separating the two teams.
Wamsley said playing for Australia was a huge honour and the highlights were playing under lights and winning the Man of the Match award in the first game against NSW, with his mare Tasha.
His cousin, Emily Wamsley, also made the trip to Warwick playing with the Cunningham Junior Team.
Emily had a great weekend playing and watching her cousin Mitch play for Australia.
The PAA Green team would like to thank Dean Taylor of Ray White Taylor Scone for his support of the team.
Also, last month several Bunnan players were selected to play for NSW at the Australian Polocrosse Nationals to be held at Albury in April next year.
The players included Mitch Wamsley in the Under 16 Junior Boys, Abbey Wilson in the Under 21 Girls, Josh Barnett and Joe Wamsley in the Under 21 Boys, and Graham Wilson in the Masters Men’s.
Brad Wamsley has been named the coach of the NSW Sub-Junior team and Leah Wilson and Brad Wamsley are reserves for the Junior Girls and Senior Men’s respectively.
Congratulations to all of these players.
