This is the 25th year of the tournament which is always held on the October long weekend at the popular Lake Glenbawn venue.
This year’s event will be held on this Saturday, October 3 and Sunday, October 4.
All details can be found on the Aberdeen Fishing Club website at www.aberdeenfishingclub.com.au.
The committee is pleased to welcome a new supporter on board this year in Anglo American.
Aberdeen Fishing Club committee member Nick Price said the extra support has allowed the competition to expand and change.
“This year for the first time there will be two separate sections - a lure only section plus the regular bait and lure section.
“There is $3000 in prize money plus lots of prizes up for grabs,” Price said.
“The classic is a catch and release tournament with bass, silver perch and yellow belly all eligible for prizes.
“The classic is a family friendly tournament were junior anglers are encouraged, and all sub junior anglers receive a prize,” he said.
“All money raised on the weekend is used to restock Glenbawn.”
From last year’s classic weekend proceeds, the club were able to put 8000 bass fingerlings back into the dam.
Price said these fingerlings were spread all over the dam by club members to increase the chance of survival of the fingerlings.
“With our new support this year we are hoping to beat this number,” he said.
Everyone can register for the classic on Friday afternoon from 3pm to 8pm or on Saturday morning. Registration is $50 for a family, $30 for an adult and $15 for a junior.
