One of the most emotionally charged, deeply moving, happy and fun days was had by all who attended the Scone RSL Men’s Bowling Club’s Prostate Cancer ‘Shave For A Cure’ bowls day.

This is what all who went along would have felt and taken home with them.
Setting ourselves a target over the past nine months of $1000, no one could have imagined the day that unfolded.
Starting with one ‘Nesso’ to shave for a cure in January to six shavee’s and two blue dye’s in September was mind blowing.
The very vocal crowd that gathered knew why these people wanted to lose their locks, it was the very reason they had come to give their support, to help find a cure for a tragic unforgiving disease that is cancer.
Thanks to the help of Darren ‘Nesso’ Nesbitt, Leanne ‘Tilsy’ Adams, Aleeya ‘Big Al’ Mullock, Henry Wilkinson who is just 15, Kasper from the Duke of Wellington, David ‘Killer’ Kilroy, Peggy O’Callahan and Col ‘Captain Blue Beard’ from the Duke of Wellington.
Thanks also to the amazingly generous loud crowd, none louder than survivor and good friend William ‘Will’ Wallace who snuck in a couple of sneaky bids that sent the crowd into a frenzy.
A total of $1705 was reached on the day and what a sensational outcome.
As the last shave was completed and the realisation of what had just happened sunk in, the silence was broken and the tears flowed freely when three of our very own – Mark Lawrence, Wayne Saunders and Ben Lawrence filled their bag pipes with air and captivated us all (as they had done throughout the day).
At that moment, on that day, it was magic and I thank you.
We chose to tackle prostate cancer, but we are fully aware of the many cancers that make their way into all of our lives.
From our RSL Bowling Club we don’t know who you are, we don’t know where you are, but if you are fighting this disease know that our thoughts and prayers are with you every minute of every day.
In closing, thank you to everyone who contributed to a memorable day.
