The Hunter Valley Cutting Horse Club held their annual October long weekend show and numerous local competitors left with blue ribbons or other top places.
The two days of action saw cutting horse trainers and non-pro competitors travel from out of town to join the local talent in the pen.
In the first event, the $7500 Non-Pro Amie Carter and ‘Tweedy Cat’ were the winners, with Cherie Rapley and ‘Raps Stickybeak’ placing runners up.
The winner of the $15,000 Novice was Graham Lamey and ‘Cee Sophie Dance’ with a score of 73 points to hold out Jason McClurg and ‘Tyrell Park Alil Crunch’ who placed second on 72.5 points and Steve Byrne on ‘Dee Bar Lethal Blue’ was third with 72 points.
The club’s president Geoff Saxby took out the Open Non-Pro with 75 points, followed by Fiona Tranter on ‘EBS Mainline’ who placed second with a 74 point run.
Show secretary Lynda MacCallum had a good weekend in the saddle, winning the Rookie division on ‘Broomfield Stylish Oak’ with 73 points, with Claire Byrne and ‘Smartys Shaman’ coming in second on 72 points.
MacCallum also placed second in the $15,000 Non-Pro with a score of 73 points on board ‘Broomfield Stylish Oak’.
The Snafflebit division on Saturday afternoon saw another local excel when Simon Palmer took out first place on ‘Lectric Princess’ with a score of 75 points, with second also a local competitor Elaine Edwards on ‘Tobasco Rey’ who scored 73 points.
In the $5000 Novice Tamworth based Peter Schumack took out the top gong on his sire ‘Times Up’ with a score of 72.5 points, closely followed by second place getters Jason McClurg on ‘Stormys Pepto’ and Steve Felton on ‘Spins Tequila Doll’, who both scored 72 points.
Scone’s Benn Watson achieved more success in the pen on Sunday winning the $15,000 Non-Pro on board ‘Clover High Heels’ showing for a 74 point score.
As mentioned MacCallum took out second, and third was split between Jeanette Moss on ‘Pepsi Cat’ and Brett Peel on ‘Maybeanacre’.
In the strong Open class, Fiona Tranter got herself another ribbon winning the event with a score of 75 points on ‘EBS Mainline’, Saxby was second on ‘Oakspinichex’ with a score of 73 points and third place went to Phil Gray and ‘Marilyn Monroc’ who showed for 71 points.
The youngsters were just as impressive with Jasmine Schumack and ‘Eyebrows Cat’ winning the Junior Youth with a score of 72.5 points, second place went to Hamish Dunbier and ‘Docs Jayann’ and third was Ben Hinman and ‘EP Starlight Catt’.
The Senior Youth division was won by Bryce Eather and ‘Destiny’s Sophisticat’ who showed for a 74 point score, followed by Emma Moore on ‘Catsonita’ with 73 points and third place went to Eather on ‘Bank On The Duck’ scoring 72.5 points.
In the final class on Sunday afternoon, the Novice Non-Pro, Fiona Tranter and ‘EBS Mainline’ scored 74 points to claim the blue ribbon, second went to Lauren Gray on ‘Ronnies Oak’ with 73.5 points and in third was Saxby and ‘Oaks Spinichex’.
The committee paid special thanks to all of its sponsors, cattle donors, supporters and the judge Ronnie Mann for contributing their bit to making the weekend a success.
All proceeds from the hire of the cattle will be donated to the Thornthwaite Bushfire Brigade, as well as a donation from the club.
