From every campdraft event, someone somewhere benefits, and all competitors can feel a little bit of pride from that.
The local Ellerston District Sports Club, which holds an annual campdraft at the grounds at ‘Belmont’, near Ellerston, have made a bumper effort to supporting charities this year.
The sports club has been holding campdrafts for many decades and the Ellerston Campdraft has a proud reputation as one of the finest events in the Hunter Zone region of the Australian Bushman’s Campdraft and Rodeo Association circuit.
Thanks to the support of all the people that make the event happen, this year the club has donated a total of $10,000 to 10 charities, both local and further afield.
The recipients include the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service Hunter region - $1000, Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service Tamworth region - $1000, Children’s Medical Research - $1000, Scone and District Cancer Support Group - $1000, Scone Breast Cancer Association - $1000, Chris O’Brien Lifehouse - $1000, Motor Neurone Disease Association - $1000, Upper Hunter Riding for the Disabled Association - $1500, Ellerston Public School - $1000 and School Students Assistance - $500.
The committee thanked all the people who have helped achieve this great feat for a small rural community.
The next Ellerston Campdraft will be held next month.
The two day campdraft and ring two gymkhana will be held on Saturday, November 28 and Sunday, November 29.
