Deputy Mayor Maurice Collison told councillors Mr Day started work with the former Murrurundi Shire Council in December 1995 as a field officer in the town services team.
“During this time Mick cleaned the streets and public toilets, emptied garbage bins and mowed the town streets and parks.
“In 2004 Mr Day had the opportunity to move into the water and sewerage services, where he tests water, repairs water leaks and operates machinery,” Cr Collison told councillors at Monday’s November meeting.
Jokingly, Cr Collison told Mr Day he recalled him moving more quickly for Council than on the cricket field when he played against him.
Mr Day accepted his award graciously and said he had enjoyed his job.
Cr Collison told Mr Day he had always been willing to help out with any task possible and Council thanked him for his services and hoped he’d be around for many more years.
