The long-serving educator, who will retire at the end of the year, has reflected on her time at Scone and District Preschool.
A passion for her job and the 50-odd children she cares for quickly shines through.
“A typical day for me is usually having a smile from ear to ear; I normally go home with sore cheeks,” she laughs.
“I welcome parents, their children, and then get straight into it and don’t stop all day long; you very rarely get the chance to sit down and have a cup of coffee but I love it.
“The best part is being with these kids, watching them grow and being a part of their lives; they’ve given me so much joy.
“It does take a special type of person to be an educator and it’s just one that I’ve been lucky enough to step into.
“You’ve got to love the kids and love the job.”
After joining the preschool 25 years ago, Mrs Brown says its facilities have improved dramatically during that time.
“There are not many preschools that would have such a beautiful outdoor area; the committee, community and staff have all contributed over the years and we’ve really benefited from it,” she says while scanning the playground area.
“It’s doubled in size, the equipment has multiplied; we’re just so lucky here.”
So, where to now for the highly-respected educator?
“I just want to travel and see Australia; I’ve done a lot of countries around the world but haven’t seen much of here,” she says.
“It’ll also be good to not have that clock ready and know you’ve got to get up and go to work, so it’s time to relax a bit now.
“And also I’m a grandmother now and I really want to enjoy that.”
Mrs Brown has lived in Scone since she was 11 years old, and she admits it’ll be tough to say farewell to a number of families within the community.
“I’d just like to say thanks to the Scone community, staff and all the families I’ve been lucky enough to be involved with over the years,” she says.
“They’ve allowed me to be part of their lives, their children’s lives, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time here at the preschool.
“I wish them continued success for the future.
“I’m going to be sad to go but I’m sure they will just keep going and going.”
