Players from both sides came to blows in the early stages of the clash.
It was a far cry from the sentiment each team showed before the opening whistle.
The Greyhounds’ observed a minute’s silence for Paddy McNamara while the Thoroughbreds did likewise for Will Carrigan.
Unfortunately, the first grade encounter was marred by a horrific injury to Singleton fullback Jarrad Castledine.
The match was delayed for more than an hour as paramedics tended to the No 1’s badly broken ankle.
At the time, the Thoroughbreds led 20-0.
Scone went on to win the match 44-10.
In other first grade results, the Muswellbrook Rams upstaged the Aberdeen Tigers 30-22 and Greta Branxton Colts beat the Denman Devils 28-4.
