The NSW Government allocated $50,000 this financial year for investigations which include surveying the road surface and reserve, property boundaries, footpaths and driveways.
Changed traffic conditions will be in place on the New England Highway and Kingdon and Surman streets.
This work will be carried out on weekdays between 7am and 5pm until Friday, May 13 when investigations are expected to be completed, weather permitting.
To reduce the impact to motorists, one night of work may need to be carried out between 8pm and midnight.
A temporary 40 km/h reduced speed limit, short term lane closures and traffic control will be in place for the safety of workers and motorists.
