In a low-scoring match in cold conditions, the lead changed four times before the Thoroughbreds ran out narrow winners 14-12.
Scone went to the break with a slim 8-6 margin, both tries being scored by the ever-improving centre Brendon Norton.
His second try came after a great individual effort from winger Joel Bates.
Scone held its slender lead until 10 minutes from full-time when the Greyhounds crossed for their second converted try to hit the front 12-8.
Steven Blayden then scored for the thoroughbreds close to the post. Lachlan Walmsley calmly potted the conversion to give Scone the match 14-12.
Joint winners of the players’ player went to Steven Blayden and Brendon Norton.
Best and fairest points went to Lachlan Holz (three) who is in red hot form.
Josh Tickle followed up his good match last weekend and earned two points, while Lachlan Walmsley, who produced another solid performance, collected one.
Coach Rando, as usual, took plenty of positives out of the win, but did mention his side will need to eliminate silly penalties and work on a smarter kicking game.
He also added he still has several key players on the sideline.
But, the form of classy centre Lachlan Duwakin, half back Josh Tickle, along with rep fullback Walmsley and big front-rower Lachlan Holz is very satisfying for this time of the season.
With a bye this weekend, Rando has decided to go bush on Saturday with his young charges for a spot of camping and pig chasing, and with the temperature tipped be near the zero mark at Merriwa.
It will be an interesting venture.
