More than 100 cars, support vehicles, medics and two choppers parked on the Ellerston Polo Fields and attended a fantastic lunch provided by the Ellerston Public School P & C on Sunday.
This year’s ‘Bashers’ included iconic Australian singers John Williamson and John Paul Young.
The Variety Club presented the school with $8200 to fund a flexible seating program and the purchase of a whole-school comprehension program.
But that is not where the generosity stopped.
Relieving principal Jen Campbell was then further blown away as the rally drivers stepped forth and presented books, blu-ray players, a video camera, USB drives, gift baskets, footballs and various merchandise from their sponsors.
“I couldn’t be more proud of our wonderful school community than I am today,” she said.
“They have stepped up and worked so hard to facilitate this wonderful event and it is fabulous to see the Variety ‘Bashers’ enjoying the first day of their trip.
“Their generosity is overwhelming and will allow our school to fund programs that would have been otherwise out of the question.
“And for our children to be able to sing ‘True Blue’ to the man himself [John Williamson] – it was a moment they will never forget.”
Mrs Campbell would also like to thank Ellerston Pty and its staff, the numerous community members who gave up their time on the day and the wonderful parents who made it all possible.
Small schools achieving great things.
