Scone High School’s Campbell Jones came first overall in the junior men under-19s, beating nearest rival Richard Cartwright by three points.

After pipping Cartwright in the opening two stages – the individual time trial and criterium – Jones fell just short in the final road race, but it was enough to claim the gold medal.

He wasn’t the only local rider to taste success at the championships.

St Joseph’s High School Aberdeen student Chloe Hollingsworth dominated the junior women under-17s age group to finish first in all three events. 

Hollingsworth was nine points ahead of second-placed Tasmin Davies at the end of the competition.

In the women under-15s, Scone High School’s Matilda Jones grabbed a spot on the podium with 55 points overall.

She came third in the time trial, fourth in criterium, and third in the road race.

Formatting for the individual time trial saw each rider race against the clock to complete the fastest time.

In the criterium, riders started together and completed laps of a course. After a period, a bell was rung to indicate the last lap.

The road race then made riders start together and complete a set number of laps.

The first 10 males and females for each stage earned points towards their overall championship point-score.

Medals were awarded to the riders with the top three point-scores in each category.
