Australian singer-songwriter Katie Noonan, who rose to fame with indie band george in the late 1990s, will be the star attraction at a Lyrics on the Lawn concert.
Organiser Diana Gillett said she was excited about bringing a musician of such pedigree to the region.
“Katie was selling concerts and it got me thinking ‘how great would it be to have her performing here and also help out beyondblue?’” Ms Gillett said.
“I’ve never planned a fundraiser of this size before and I have to say that the only way I’ve been able to do it is through the support of friends.
“Everyone I spoke to thought it was a great idea and that indicated to me that it was going to work.”
With the event originally slated for November last year, Ms Gillett was forced to postpone and considered cancelling it altogether.
However, her determination to raise awareness of mental health proved crucial in the concert going ahead.
“I was tempted to just let it go but decided to see it through,” she said.
“I feel a lot of attention goes towards other illnesses and I was seeing more and more friends and family being affected by mental health problems.
“So the whole idea is to break down the stigma of mental health.”
She believed the concert had all the ingredients to be successful.
“Katie is so talented and you’re surrounded by friends and at a great setting, so it should be a really fun night,” she said.
“We haven’t had anything like this in Scone so I really hope it works out well.”
Lyrics on the Lawn will start at 5pm on Saturday, October 15, with funds to be raised through a raffle and silent auctions.
Tickets cost $75, which includes entertainment, dinner by Liza White’s Supervan, and dessert by Twice Baked.
