Primary school students from Ellerston and Blandford will compete in 4x100 metre relays at the NSW Public School Sports Association State Athletics Carnival in Homebush, Sydney, on Thursday.
Both teams qualified for the carnival by coming first at zone in Singleton and claiming the regional finals against athletes from across the Hunter at Glendale.
They will now be aiming to reach the national championships in their respective categories. Ellerston’s PP6 relay team consists of Sophie Baker, Jack Grimes, Cody Grimes and Blake Grimes.
The school’s relieving principal Jen Campbell said the students had been training hard ahead of the competition.
“They have spent the last few weeks with Ellerston's sprint champion, Adam, and trained like professional athletes,” she said.
“The awesome foursome will give it their all and we wish them the very best.
“It’s another big achievement for our small school students.”
Representatives for Blandford’s PP5 team will be Jack Teague, Lachie Teague, Bridie Crowe and Millie Crowe.
