Strathearn has announced this week that it will become part of the HammondCare group, a leading Australian health and aged care charity, ensuring a strong future for the provision of aged care and retirement living in Scone and surrounding districts.

The arrangement, which has been approved by the Boards of both organisations, subject to some final documentation, will enable Strathearn to access best-practice dementia and aged care expertise as well as delivering excellent clinical, quality and financial outcomes.
This will be achieved while retaining Strathearn’s important place in the Scone and Upper Hunter community.
And the change will mean that Strathearn’s plans for new services can happen much more quickly and, as a result, its workforce will grow.
Chairman of the Strathearn Board Gordon Halliday said the partnership was a great outcome for residents and clients across all Strathearn services, and the board will be retained as a local advisory committee under the new arrangement.
“Strathearn has a proud history of providing aged care and retirement living in the Scone district, but health and aged care is increasingly complex,” he said.
“You need strong and robust systems and this partnership will mean that Strathearn has access to them.
“While we have been able to develop new facilities, important for securing our future, our clinical and risk and quality processes will benefit from HammondCare’s best practice expertise in dementia and aged care.
“It became essential to forge a partnership with a compatible not-for-profit organisation and HammondCare is the ideal choice.”
HammondCare’s Chief Executive Dr Stephen Judd was in Scone this week to make the announcement to staff and residents.
“Our mission is improving quality of life for people in need which aligns very strongly with Strathearn’s ethos,” Dr Judd said.
“At the same time, our clinical strength and financial capacity make us an ideal partner and we have a strong commitment to rural and regional areas through a range of service, including in the Hunter and surrounding regions.
“We look forward to continuing Strathearn’s long history of care and seeing it go from strength to strength.” HammondCare provides residential and community aged care in NSW and Victoria and community palliative care in seven local health districts across NSW.”
HammondCare also provides two national dementia support services across Australia and is an award-winning provider of retirement living.
Strathearn’s Matt Downie will oversee the partnership transition.
