And, residents are more than happy with that label.
Upper Hunter Shire Council hosted a Chemical CleanOut at Wilson Memorial Park last month, giving locals a safe way to dispose of household problem wastes like fluorescent lights, paint, gas bottles, batters and oils.
According to the EPA site report, 38 people attended the event and more than 4000kg of chemicals were collected.
“In the Upper Hunter, CleanOuts are held at different locations each year to provide all residents of the region access to our service,” public affairs officer Emma Schiller said.
“This was the first time an event took place in Murrurundi.
“All 38 participants were also first-time users of CleanOut.
“They took advantage of the opportunity to discard 4224.5kg of household chemicals.
“It is hard to compare the figures to other towns as populations and frequency of service differs.
“But, the previous event at Scone in 2014-15 saw 2351kg of household chemicals collected.
“In 2015-16, at Merriwa, we picked up 1173kg.”
The next collection in the Upper Hunter will take place at Muswellbrook.
The CleanOut is planned for Saturday, February 25, between 9am and 3.30pm at the Indoor Sports Centre car park in Rutherford Road.
