It has been a busy year and these are some of the highlights of Council projects that I have been involved with:
Moonan Cutting
The final design for the rock face stabilisation is underway and the project should be completed by the middle of 2017 including an extension to the culvert on the eastern side and the guard rail along the embankment.
This has been a complex engineering project but after a lot of planning (and earth moving and ground stabilising), the end result is in sight – a much safer, wider road.
Scone Regional Saleyards
There has been a lot of work this year at the Scone Saleyards including the introduction of a Work Health and Safety (WHS) site induction program.
There is a lot of other work planned for 2017 and the Saleyards committee will meet in January to start discussing the upcoming works. These meetings are open to interested persons.
Scone and Regional Airport
The Airport Master plan is completed and has been adopted. Recently a very successful Air display with the Flight of the Hurricane was held and Council was pleased to be able to provide support to this very successful event.
Congratulations to all involved to make this display such a great day.
Some new committee members have been appointed to the Airport committee and I am looking forward to working with the committee over the next four years to make our airport a success and a great place to visit.
Other highlights include …
- Opening of the Starrs Crossing Bridge which is another great milestone in improving travel routes and infrastructure throughout our Shire.
- The soon to be signed off Upper Hunter Land Use Strategy (January 2017). This is a significant planning document as considerable hours have gone into this.
- And of course our participating and support to some of the major festivals throughout our Shire. May I take this opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and please stay safe.
Bring on 2017 which will no doubt be another busy year for Council.
Till next year take care and I look forward to seeing you at the Australia Day celebrations if not before.
