Residents from Aberdeen, Merriwa, Murrurundi and Scone are invited to attend an upcoming meeting in their town.
Upper Hunter Shire Council adopted Revitalisation Masterplans after extensive community consultations in 2016.
Action plans from the Masterplans will now be prioritised by community members supported by council staff.
Each town Action Plan includes dozens of recommendations, some which can be achieved in the short-term (such as tree planting); medium term (such as heritage story boards) and long term (such as installing more pedestrian crossings).
At upcoming meetings the working groups will begin to prioritise the action plan items they want to work on.
Any person interested in being on one of the working groups can attend the town meeting.
- It is proposed that the Merriwa Action Plan will be considered by the Merriwa Tourism and Promotion Committee, which will meet 6pm on February 6 at Council Chambers Merriwa.
- The Scone Town Centre Revitalisation Working Group will meet on February 7 at the Council Administration Centre from 6pm.
- The Aberdeen Working Group meeting will be at 6pm on Monday 13 February at the Aberdeen Community Hall.
- The Murrurundi Town Centre Revitalisation Working Group will meet at 6pm on February 20 at the Murrurundi Bowling Club. Note: this meeting will be held instead of the Murrurundi Community Leader’s Forum.
The Masterplans aim to create more attractive and vibrant retail destinations with recommendations that include improving landscaping, parking, seating, shade, signage and maps, pedestrian and cycling access, creating public art and slowing traffic through kerb blisters and green spaces at the entrances to towns.
Council’s Manager Business Enterprise and Tourism, Sean Constable encouraged interested residents to read the Masterplans, come along to the meetings and consider taking a role.
