A combined 13 athletes from Aberdeen and Merriwa will instead converge on Hunter Sports Centre, Glendale, seven days later.
The Upper Hunter youngsters qualified for the competition after impressing at the Little Athletics Hunter Zone Championships in Kurri Kurri late last year.
Aberdeen's Bronx Gerrin will contest the under-9 200m sprint, while his talented under-10 clubmate Malaki Poa is set for both the high jump and long jump.
Bella-Rose Partridge has also progressed in the 1500m, 3000m and javelin.
Under-17 representative Kate Lloyd will take part in the 1500m and 3000m run.
Apart from Aberdeen, a sensational trip to the zone championships means Merriwa will send nine juniors to Newcastle.
They include: Ben Patterson, Grace Booth, Ben, Dylan and Jackson Keane, Thomas Hunt, Cody Bates, and Jorji and Darcy Taafe.
Merriwa Little Athletics Club president Tash Taafe said she was very proud of their achievements.
“Merriwa made its presence felt at zones for all the right reasons,” she said.
“To have nine athletes qualify for regionals is an outstanding result.”
