Despite temperatures again swelling to 40 degrees, a sizeable crowd turned out for the annual charity match between Belltrees and Rouchel.
After donating in excess of $80,000 to the Glenn McGrath Foundation over the past five years, all funds from the 2017 event were pledged to Where There’s A Will.
And, following a raffle and auction, organisers put the final figure raised this time at approximately $35,000.
Some of the auction items available included a Canberra Raiders signed jersey, an Ellerston golf package, and a helicopter scenic flight to your destination in the Upper Hunter.
Special guest Tom Crawford made the 10-hour trek for the day. He earlier said Where There’s A Will’s message had resonated with him due to the loss of two of his brothers, Andrew and Jonathon, to suicide.
Meanwhile, in the on-field action, Rouchel defeated the hosts by 32 runs. After batting first, Belltrees’ perennial nemesis, Nate Atkinson (80), belted another half century while Steve Clydsdale (35) also chipped in as Rouchel reached 7/222.
It proved to be too much as Belltrees managed 190 in reply.
