I have had a fairly torrid few weeks, some of which has been caused by natural disasters, but some by a few vocal malcontents. This goes with the job, but too many at one time, and you do start to question human nature.

Then along comes the answer. In a matter of one week I have seen community spirit that would lift the heaviest heart.
There has been the gift that keeps on giving, our tireless volunteer and paid emergency services workers who have been exemplary. Within the space of twenty four hours, three major fund raisers which all made tens of thousands of dollars for the various not-for-profit causes.
All were well attended and the generosity and enthusiasm to contribute was simply amazing.
Anyone who has been out Cassilis way in the last few days will be well aware of the hundreds of large bales of feed heading out there, much of it coming from farmers who had been storing it for their own stock with the potentially very dry conditions to come before next spring!
Taking off my mayor hat for a moment, on Sunday we had a lightning strike and subsequent fire on the property I manage. Within half an hour we had a local RFS unit onsite, no mean feat when I found out they had returned from Cassilis that morning and were now fighting a fire on our property at Parkville after only three hours sleep.
God bless the silent majority who do so much when it is most needed!
Scone Civic Theatre
I have a received a much welcome update from the owner of the Scone Civic Theatre. There have been many enquiries over the years about what is happening with the theatre and why is it taking so long for something to be done with it?
Well, projects such as this, especially ones that are of Heritage significance, must proceed to the letter of the law and tend to require exorbitant amounts of money to do so, causing necessary but frustrating delays in progress. We are very lucky to have owners who are willing to spend the money and take the time to do all of this work.
I am pleased to say that the bulk of impediments have been hurdled and the Civic Theatre is now able to be worked upon in earnest by the owners. We can now all look forward to external improvements and when it is complete inside and out, it will be resplendent in its former glory! You can find a letter from the owner on council's Facebook page and, of course, the article contained within this paper.
