After upcoming renovations take place, this space will be the home of the new, improved Merriwa Library. The Library Committee are very excited about the benefits this move in location will bring.
Sir Ivan Fires
Landholders have welcomed the arrival of a convoy of trucks from southern and central west NSW carrying donated hay which is desperately needed to feed surviving livestock on properties burnt out in the devastating Sir Ivan bush fire. Much needed donations of feed for stock were brought to Cassilis.
People wishing to donate good quality fodder should call NSW Local Lands Services on 1800 814 647.
Volunteers who wish to assist with rebuilding fencing should contact Blaze Aid who have set up camp at Cassilis Bowling Club. Council is assisting Blaze Aid with waste disposal and recycling.
There is an Upper Hunter Mayoral Bush fires Appeal to assists residents impacted by the bush fire. Financial donations can be made at any of Upper Hunter Shire Council Offices or by Direct Deposit

Clean Up Australia Day – Sunday, March 5
Register and take part in Clean Up activities and receive a free tip voucher for the day for a trailer load of normal household waste.
It is 27th annual Clean Up Day and all residents are invited to come along to help out, bring children and enjoy a barbecue or morning tea. Volunteers are urged to come along and help keep our shire looking great.
Rubbish bags will be available but please bring along a pair of gloves and a water bottle, wear sensible shoes, sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses. Free Waste disposal at the tips will only be available to clean up participants who hold a voucher for that day.
Seniors Festival
The Seniors Festival is to be held next week is a festival for people over the age 60 years, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders over the age of 50 years, and people over 50 years that have a lifelong disability.
There are events in Aberdeen, Merriwa, Murrurundi and Scone.
One event is a peak behind the counter, where everyone is welcome to come for a short tour of the Council Scone Administration Centre and join staff and councillors for morning tea. The tour starts 10am at Council Chambers Thursday, March 9.
