I attended both Emergency Management Meetings and Recovery workshops where I heard several speakers give a presentation on what is available for those that have been affected by the fires.

May I take this opportunity to thank all the different organisations that contributed in any way to help protect the community from any more destruction.

My thoughts are with all those who were affected by this fire and hope you can all rebuild and don’t be afraid to ask for help if needed.

How to donate

Most fires are now under control but the work has only just begun for those affected. The Mayor and I will be visiting Moonan Flat this Saturday at 4pm for the Mayor to accept a cheque for $3,000 to go in the Upper Hunter Shire Mayoral Appeal to help those affected by the fires that live in our Shire.

The Victoria Hotel along with the community raised this money two years ago to go towards drought affected families but it was decided that some of the money raised would be much appreciated by those affected by the Sir Ivan Fire.

Horse Trials

I visited the Horse Trials last Saturday held at Gundy and witnessed a large crowd in attendance with a little rain late in the day.

The grounds looked superb and I took some time to catch up with my fellow Councillor Kiwa Fisher who tried to explain to me the rules of the event. Thanks Kiwa but I believe I will need another lesson.

Congratulations to the Committee for again running a well organised event. The Upper Hunter Shire was again proud to have helped out as a sponsor for the weekend.
