The Muswellbrook Race Club hosted the feature Wild Card race at the neighbouring location, with owners and trainers striving for those last couple of places in the Final at Randwick on April 1.
Impressive fields thrilled the hardened punter, while there was plenty of glamour to catch the eye of local fashionistas.
The meeting also gave the racing fraternity a chance to bid popular Scone trainer Greg Bennett “farewell” at his home track.
With wife Wendy and daughter Chloe looking on, the successful mentor received a special gift in the newly-named Noel Leckie function room.
Bennett is handing back his trainer’s licence the day after the Final and moving to Queensland to take up a role with prominent breeding facility, Aquis Farm.
Ironically, he won the 2016 Country Championships title with Clearly Innocent.
