One lane of the road will remain open with traffic control in place.
Residents are asked to obey signage.
On the recommendation of geo-technical engineers, the top of Moonan Cutting is being further stabilised to reduce the risk of rocks falling, particularly after rain.
The work will include the removal of loose material and improvements to drainage on the rock face side.
Before work started in September 2015, the Moonan Cutting road was around five metres wide with no clear line of sight for traffic.
When the project is completed the road will be approximately seven metres wide with drainage on the rock face side and a guardrail on the river side.
The project to create a wider, safer and stable road at Moonan Cutting has been a technically complex project and an engineering challenge involving digging into a cliff near a river.
Council thanks the community for its patience, while this major project is underway.
Residents who would like to be added to an email list to receive updates about the project should email their name and address to council@upperhunter.nsw.gov.au with the subject line ‘Moonan Cutting’.
