Jonathan D’Arcy, Director of Inglis Bloodstock, encourages the public to take part in this time-honoured Festival event, which gives attendees the chance to participate in the excitement of the Scone Cup Carnival – the richest country racing carnival in Australia.
“Inglis has been part of the Scone Horse Festival for as long it’s been held,” Mr D’Arcy said. “The Official Scone Cup Calcutta allows locals and visitors alike to have an entertaining night at Scone Sporties and experience the thrill of theoretically owning a horse in the Scone Cup the following day.”
Now in its 37th year, the Official Scone Cup Calcutta has become synonymous with the annual Scone Horse Festival – showcasing the region’s thoroughbred racing prominence with prize pools as high as $20,000 in recent years.
“Tickets will be on sale from 5.30pm at Scone Sporties – formerly Scone Golf Club,” Mr D’Arcy said. “Tickets are just $2 each, and ticket selling will cease at 8pm. The horses and winning tickets will then be drawn before the auction begins at approximately 8.30pm.
“If you are lucky enough to draw a horse, you then have the right to bid for your horse at the auction and only pay 50 per cent of the final bid price, or if you decide to sell your horse, you will receive 50 per cent of the final bid price.
“The purchasers of horses at the live auction will experience firsthand the anticipation of racehorse ownership at the following day’s Darley Scone Cup Carnival, with the owners of the first, second and third place-getters receiving 60 per cent, 20 per cent and 10 per cent of the total prize pool.”
The remaining 10 per cent of funds are donated to the Scone Horse Festival volunteer committee, who work tirelessly to promote and organise the festival each year.
Hosted at Scone Sporties since its inception, attendees at this year’s Calcutta can look forward to delicious food and a great atmosphere. For those who would like to dine, bookings are highly recommended. The restaurant opens at 6pm and happy hour commences at 6.30pm. To make your reservation, call (02) 6545 1814.
