The weather turned on a beautiful day for all the dedicated mums in the club, who spent their Mother’s Day on the sideline watching some quality junior rugby union.

A LARGE group of Scone boys including Jackson Mitchell, Jack Teague, Oscar Richardson, Otis Bottomley, Nick Adkins, Remy Higgins and Jack Faulkner travelled to Gunnedah to combine with Gunnedah, Tamworth and Quirindi to make up a Barbarians team to play two 45-minute games. 

The first match was against Armidale where although we lost the first half 2 tries to 1 the boys fought back to win 4 tried to 2. 

The second game was against the Coonamble team. This was a very close encounter but unfortunately we came out second best only to lose 6-5. 

Overall it was a great effort from the boys and we played really well.

The under-14s are looking for some players.

THE Scone under-12 Gold team had a very successful Gunnedah Carnival, showing continued improvement from last week. 

First game against Inverell saw us off to a slow start. Hunter Ryan showed good leadership and was supported by strong performances by Cody Grimes, Jack Reardon, Hamish McRae and Angus Beard. Unfortunately our slow start was costly losing the game by one try.

Match two against Tamworth, a team with a big forward pack, was going to be a challenge.

However, our big ball runners in Bailey Park and Charlie Richardson carried us over the advantage line with help from Lachlan Miller, James Hayden-Wicks and Will Nugent. We finished the game with a convincing victory.

The final outing against Walcha saw us really find form easily running away with the game. Josh Crowther and Archie Brooker carved up the opposition with great support play from Cohen Watson, Lachlan Clydesdale and Aiden Cooper.

Well done to every player for striving to improve as the day went on and putting in a real effort to use the skills we have been practicing at training.

A GREAT start to Mother’s Day, with the Scone Blue lads having a good win against a combined Coonabarabran/Quirindi Team. 

The opposition had a much bigger pack and dominated our lads at the breakdown. We didn't adjust our game and continued to pick and drive, with the ball constantly turned over due to effective work from the opposing team. Some adjusting at half time and the boys worked to their strength and used the width of the field to come away with a convincing win. 

Match two against an older Armidale team proved to be just beyond us. A much improved effort at the break down, but Armidale beat us at our own game. They had some fast outside backs and on the back of some strong work from their forwards they won 10-7.

The final hit-out against Barraba was Scone’s best for the day. The scoreline aside, our boys showed some brilliant individual skills, mixed with some great team work to score numerous tries. Our 3, 2, 1 points for each game where spread between Hamish White, Max Patterson, Will Crompton, Angus Stanford, Harry Faulkner, Matty Edwards, Thomas Burnett and Archie Martin.  

SCONE under8s had 11 boys form a strong team at Gunnedah. 

James Miller was captain for the day and led from the front with powerful running, tackling and good cleanout work at the breakdown. John Chapman also ran well and was a great last line of defence with copybook cover tackles. Sam Schofield improves every minute on the field with some good running and scoring a try. Angus and Bill Giblin were heavily involved and backed each other up well. The Teague boys were also strong with both Archie and Henry scoring tries. Henry also lived up to his nickname "The Burglar" stealing opposition ball almost at will and cleaning out strongly. Edo Dawson continues to improve and supported his teammates well. Lucas Grimes was amazing in attack and defence and racked up plenty of tries for the day. 

The boys played two Narrabri teams, losing the first game 6-5 and winning the second 9-6. We then faced a very strong Quirindi team who beat us well in Walcha but the boys stepped up to record a hard fought 6-8 loss, with the Quirindi coaches calling it the toughest game of the day for them. 

All up the under-8s are all improving with every minute on the field and enjoying their rugby. We continue to work on cleaning out, decision making and defence. At the end of the day the boys all said they'd had fun which is one of our goals as a team. 

Scone Junior Rugby Union is a family-friendly organisation that competes in the Central North Junior Rugby Competition. 

Training is held on Friday nights from 5pm at Scone Rugby Club.

The club has a fully-licensed bar which is operational on the night and dinner is provided to players and their siblings, getting parents out of Friday night dinner.
